Can You Host a Chinese Student?
Once again, Winchcombe School has been invited to take part in a very exciting project in collaboration with a Chinese school, after a similar venture in 2009. The Suzhou Foreign Language School (SFLS) is a high achieving private school in Suzhou near Shanghai. All pupils learn English and the school encourages pupils to improve their English skills by placing twenty-five students each year in outstanding British schools for the summer term.
The 25 students, aged 13- 14, would spend the summer term at Winchcombe School. They would join Year 9 and Year 10 lessons during the morning, but for their own lessons they would be taught by their own teachers in the afternoon.
The idea is to lodge students with English Families for the durtion of their three-month stay. The host families would look after the students in the evenings and weekends and during half term. Obviously this would involve families in significant expense and a generous payment of around £1200 per student would be payable to the host family to cover food, visits and other expenses.
Winchcombe School would provide full time education for the students and a variety of trips and visits, some of them at the weekend and one long trip at half term.
The ideal situation would be for families to host one Chinese student; this would give the student the best opportunity to speak English at all times. Host families with any age children would be welcome to apply to host a Chinese student.
