Steaming Through the Cotswolds

The Gloucestershire Warkwickshire Railway is in the process of re-building and restoring part of the former Great Western main line between Cheltenham and Stratford.

The Line currently operates between Toddington and Cheltenham Racecourse, a round trip of around 20 miles. You can of course join a train at Winchcombe Station, which is located slightly outside Winchcombe at Greet.

Their Web Site is packed with information. There is also an unofficial site showing progress on reconstruction of the line from Toddington to Broadway.

Behind an ordinary house front and down a narrow passageway, you will step into a wonderland full of things to do and see. Experience being a signalman: clip your own tickets, remember, or imagine, what it was like in the days of steam. In our half acre of Cotswold gardens (full of old and rare plants) there is something for everyone: space to run and play, secluded parts to sit and relax and everywhere things to fascinate you. For the railway enthusiast there is one of the largest collections of railway equipment in the country. (3 on the map)
