The great thing about running from Winchcombe is that within minutes, you will have hit the countryside and some breathtaking views. Being at the heart of many footpaths offers variety and choice when planning your trail running route.
The 102-mile Cotswold Way National Trail passes through the town and we have our own 42 mile route the Winchcombe Way and The Isbourne Way, a 14-mile path that follows this pretty, north-flowing river.
The Windrush Way, The Wardens Way and the Gloucestershire Way, all criss-cross our town and offer more wonderful running routes around the Cotswolds.
We have two friendly and welcoming running clubs based in Winchcombe, Winchcombe Running Club meet on a Monday evening and Embrace the Outdoors on a Tuesday evening.
There are a number of annual running events that take place in or around the town including:
-Run Winchcombe (August) – starting at Sudeley Castle this event offers a 1-10km (Hill Climb), 5km and children’s 1km races and is a whole family affair.
-The Maverick Adidas Terrex Original Cotswolds (July) – with 3 routes on offer (7km, 15km and 23km) and making the most of the Cotswold Hills, whichever route you choose it’s no walk in the park!
– Broadway Half Marathon (November) – a muddy, hilly tour of the northern Cotswolds from neighbouring town Broadway.
We also have our very own Winchcombe junior parkrun, a 2km run around Winchcombe Park every Sunday morning at 9am (4 -14year olds) plus we are in the perfect place for some parkrun tourism including Cheltenham, Evesham, Tewkesbury and Stratford-upon-Avon.
