Unearthing History: Live Archaeology
21st October – 2nd November
12:00pm
Sudeley Castle, Winchcombe, Cheltenham GL54 5JD
This October, step into the heart of a real archaeological dig as experts from DigVentures begin excavating the remains of a long-lost medieval settlement within the grounds of Sudeley Castle.
Once one of the largest communities in the region, this village was recorded in the Domesday Book and thrived for over 400 years. Home to around 40 households, it mysteriously vanished in the 15th century, leaving behind no trace – until now. Thanks to cutting-edge LiDAR technology, archaeologists have identified the possible location of the settlement, revealing ghostly outlines of medieval housing plots hidden beneath the landscape.
