Winchcombe to Waterhatch & Spoonley Wood Roman Mosaic
Sunday, 7th June
10:30am
Back Lane Car Park, Winchcombe GL54 5PZ
Join us for a beautiful countryside adventure exploring peaceful woodland trails, rolling hills, hidden history and one of the Cotswolds’ fascinating Roman treasures
This scenic there-and-back route takes us from the charming town of Winchcombe through quiet countryside towards Waterhatch, before heading into Spoonley Wood where we’ll visit the remains of a Roman villa mosaic tucked away amongst the trees.
The Spoonley Wood Roman Mosaic is part of a former Romano-British villa believed to date back nearly 2,000 years. The exposed mosaic floor gives a small glimpse into what would once have been a large countryside villa during Roman Britain — a hidden little piece of history right in the middle of the woodland.

These walks are friendly, informal group hikes led by myself through my love of the outdoors and local knowledge of the area. Everyone taking part does so at their own risk and is responsible for their own safety, wellbeing and personal belongings throughout the walk.
